about AER

The Alliance for Epilepsy Research (AER) is an advocacy group founded by a grass roots effort.  It is a voice for those affected by epilepsy.

The AER has been formed to encourage and support innovative epilepsy research and to increase public awareness of epilepsy and epilepsy's impact.  Since current treatments for epilepsy are often unsuccessful and side effects can be detrimental to quality of life, new treatments and a cure for epilepsy are the targets of AER's support.

AER was founded in 1996.  Dr. Ivan Osorio, an Epileptologist, Susan Arthurs, an airline pilot who lost her job, career and hobby to epilepsy and Dr. Rich Davis of Kansas City were all instrumental in its founding, development and growth.  It is an all volunteer organization.

Our Mission

The mission of the Alliance for Epilepsy Research is to help find a cure for epilepsy.

Our Goals

The goals of the Alliance for Epilepsy Research are to encourage and support innovative epilepsy research and to increase awareness in the general public of epilepsy and of the problems associated with having the disorder.

Tax Exempt Status

The Alliance for Epilepsy Research is a non-profit organization incorporated in the state of Missouri. It is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Contributions to AER qualify as charitable donations.
